Dr Indra Hughes is one of this country’s most prominent organists and will present the first Organ concert for the year. His programme is an interesting one, the first half being dedicated to romantic music, both old and new, starting with Elgar's "Imperial March", written in 1896, and contrasting with this with "Huia", a piece premiered in Auckland in 2011 by the composer Ben Hoadley(b 1968).

The second half of the programme is devoted entirely to a presentation of Widor's "Symphony V in F minor". The final movement is the famous "Toccata" which has been heard on the Waiapu organ several times, but the whole symphony of five movements has never been heard.

Indra is based in Auckland but has given concerts in many of the world's prestigious venues including Westminster Abbey. He also enjoys a national reputation through his frequent appearances as a broadcaster on RNZ Concert.

Tickets available at the door.
