Dragon Boat Open Day

Restrictions: R13

Ticket Information:

  • Admission: Free

Ever wondered what it is like to paddle in a dragon boat? Now is your chance to do so on the beautiful Wellington Harbour. Bring a colleague, friend, or family members to experience this exciting sport.

Valley Dragonboat Club - with the support of local Dragonboat Clubs - are holding an open day. This is a great opportunity to try dragon boating, or maybe get people in your organisation excited to prepare for racing at the the Wellington Dragon Boat Festival - New Zealand's largest dragon boat event.

You’ll be provided with you with a life jacket, paddle, and instruction by experienced dragon boaters. You just need to bring a change of clothes and "give it a go" attitude.

Notes:
- Long trousers or track pants cannot be worn on the boat as it is difficult to swim in them in case there is a capsize (unlikely, but safety first). Wear shorts, wetsuit, compression gear or tights.
- Last boat goes on the water around noon but groups may book other times.
- You can also talk to club members about joining a team (the clubs have mixed, women, masters, and breast cancer survivor teams) or if you have paddled before, maybe introduce your colleagues to paddling.

If there are strong Northerlies, (Southerlies and rain don't bother us) we may limit paddling to the lagoon or postpone to Sunday 2 December.

Email - vdcwellington@gmail.com for more information, inquire about joining a club, or reserve paddling spots for your group at a specific time.
