Dohnányi: Piano Quintet No 1 in C minor
Puccini: Crisantemi (String Quartet)
Dvořák: Piano Quintet in A, Opus 81

This is a not-to-be-missed occasion which promises to be one of the highlights of the Waikanae Music Society's 2018 season. It will be a fabulous concert of Romantic favourites from an impressive line-up of fabulous musicians.

New Zealand's favourite pianist Michael Houstoun is joined by legendary violinist Wilma Smith, along with Monique Lapins and Gillian Ansell from the New Zealand String Quartet and acclaimed cellist Eliah Sakakushev-von Bismarck.

This formidable ensemble, known as the Emona Piano Quintet, are all set to have a wonderful time joining forces to perform two of the great Romantic quintets, by Dvořák and Dohnányi.

The Dvořák Quintet is one of the best-known and most popular of all piano quintets and needs little introduction. The Dohnányi, however, is relatively unknown, despite being a passionate work filled with wonderfully inventive melodies, rich harmonies and more than a touch of Hungarian fire.

Between the two piano quintets, the string players will perform Puccini's delightful little one movement string quartet - Crisantemi (Crysanthemums).

The concert, in the Waikanae Memorial Hall, starts at 2.30pm. Door sales will be available, or tickets can be bought at Waikanae New World, at Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach or at the Kapiti i-site in Paraparaumu.
