About Peter Wright:
Peter Wright was born in Hertfordshire. He was educated at Highgate School and then spent two years as Organ Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music, studying with Richard Popplewell (Organ) and Angus Morrison (Piano) and gaining various prizes and diplomas. In 1973 he went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, as Organ Scholar where he continued his organ studies with Dame Gillian Weir and with Flor Peeters in Belgium.

Following this Peter Wright became Sub-Organist at Guildford Cathedral and, since 1989, has been Organist and Director of Music at Southwark Cathedral. Under his direction the Choir has recorded many CDs and undertaken three tours to the USA and several to the continent, the last being to Iceland in May 2017.

Peter is much in demand as an organ recitalist and choral conductor, both in the UK and abroad, and enjoys a wide and varied repertoire. In addition he plays regularly with the country’s leading orchestras, both solo and continuo, and has travelled widely around the world. In 2000 he performed the complete organ works of J S Bach at Southwark and has recently given recitals in Paris (at Notre-Dame and La Trinité), Germany and the Netherlands. A solo CD of French and Belgian organ music, recorded at Southwark for REGENT RECORDS was released in July 2010.

In May 2011 Peter Wright was awarded the prestigious FRSCM, in recognition of his work at Southwark and for church music in general, and he is also an Honorary Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians. Peter is a former President and currently Vice-President of the Royal College of Organists. He is also a trustee of the Nicholas Danby Trust, which seeks to support young organists of outstanding promise, by awarding scholarships and bursaries for conservatoire study within Europe.

About the pipe organ in Holy Trinity Cathedral:
The cathedral organ was built by Nicholson & Co. of Malvern, UK, and installed in the Cathedral in 2017. It is New Zealand's largest pipe organ, with over 5000 pipes. Since the installation last year, it has stunned audiences to concerts with its grandeur and versatility.
