Shift from stress to bliss and experience being in the flow of mind, body and heart in this playful and creative weekend. An introduction to the graceful skills of flow/circus arts is a joyful way to increase hand eye coordination, balance and dexterity.

Activities include juggling, hoops, acrobatics, and poi, plus part of the weekend will include mindfulness practice of meditation that compliments the focus required to learn these skills. Breakout sessions for advanced tuition with Haley are an option for those who already have the basics.

This workshop is for people both new to flow/circus arts and others that wish to improve their skills. The weekend opens with a Friday evening after-dinner glow show by Haley, and the workshop participants will create an informal show together for Sunday at 1:00pm. Kids over 10 years old are welcome to attend with a parent.

What to bring: loose comfortable and modest clothing. For beginners we’ll have some heavier hula hoops great for learning. If you can, please bring a set of homemade sock poi. These are made simply with a pair of knee socks and 2 tennis balls. For intermediate students, if you have your own hoop or poi then do bring along.

This is part of a Mindfulness and Creativity series that also includes Mindful Photography and Kete Basket Flax Weaving workshops. Pre-registration is essential by 9 November by contacing Mahamudra Centre.

About Hayley and Sarah:
Haley is a fire dancer from Thames, New Zealand and is a partner in ‘Flames of Plenty’ a fire and glow performance group based in the Bay of Plenty.

Haley began her journey into the flow arts in 2006 when she was introduced to poi (fire poi to be exact) and quickly became hooked with learning new moves and finding her flow.

While poi was her first love, over the years Haley has also spent time learning all sorts of Prop Manipulation including Fans, Staff (single, double, dragon), levitation wand, juggling and Hula Hoops of various sizes.

Haley began performing in 2009 with various fire troupes at a wide variety of events both public and private and continues to do so.

Haley has extensive knowledge of poi and hoops (her two props of choice) and is looking forward to sharing some of that with you at the Mahamadra Flow retreat 16-18 Nov, 2018.

Sarah is currently co-manager at the Mahamudra centre where she fulfils many varied duties including creating a flow arts weekend programme.

She previously worked in the field of mental health as a support worker and group facilitator of personal development and creative arts workshops and groups. She is also qualified massage practitioner of many years, and you can book a massage with her at the centre.
