11th November 2018 is the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, which marked the end of the hostilities of the First World War.

New Zealand proudly recognises the services of many men and women in both World Wars through Anzac and Armistice Day commemorations, and Hamilton Civic Choir will mark this significant day with a special commemoration concert at St Andrew’s Church in Cambridge, under the direction of Conductor Timothy Carpenter.

The concert is built around the theme of “Memoirs and Song” which will see a framework of choral pieces accompanied by repetiteur extraordinaire Francis Cowan on the organ, interspersed with hymns, short poetry and readings. The concert will include works by Parry, Elgar, Brahms, Dyson, Vaughan Williams and Mozart, and local composers Hamilton, and Baldwin.

Cambridge’s St Andrew’s Church also has a special but important connection with the Armistice commemoration. The battle of Le Quesnoy, involving Kiwis scaling the town's 17th century walls with ladders, is commemorated in stained glass windows at the church and has helped forge a strong relationship between the towns.

It is an occasion that encourages reflection and provides motivation to strive for a peaceful future. Do join us for what promises to be a most memorable commemoration of the Armistice centenary.

Entry by donation.
