Every Sunday at 1pm through April and May, Te Uru will be presenting a special screening of the award-winning film Pacific 3-2-1-Zero (1994), as part of the survey exhibition From Scratch: 546 Moons.

This will be followed by weekly artist conversations and instrument demonstrations by members of the From Scratch group at 2pm.

First composed in 1982 for performance at the 12th Paris Biennale, Pacific 3-2-1-Zero was developed as a work of protest against nuclear testing and waste dumping in the South Pacific. The musical structure of the performance reflects the idea of isolated islands of humanity connected by common waters, whose currents innocently carry nuclear contamination.

Composed by Phil Dadson, Wayne Laird, Don McGlashan, with thanks to Geoff Chapple. Performers: Phil Dadson, Wayne Laird and James McCarthy. Produced for film by award-winning director Gregor Nicholas, 1994.

The film won the Grand Prix and first prize in its category at the 1994 Cannes/Midem Visual Music Awards, and later in the same year, first prize for Best Editing in the NZ Film and TV Awards.
