In the 1930s the Otari staff planted kauri and a selection of podocarps (Think of conifers) on the ridge where the pylon stands. We will walk up the Red Trail to the pylon, and then down the ridge to find these 70-90 year old trees hidden in the greenery.

Return via the Troup Picnic Lawn and admire the kauri in the cultivated area. This should take us a little more than an hour. Good walking shoes or boots advisable.

Meet at the Information Centre at 2pm. Cost is $5 cash (or free if you're a member of Otari Trust).
