Where: The Piano: Centre for Music and the Arts, 156 Armagh Street , Christchurch

Restrictions: All Ages

The Polish Association in Christchurch is proud to present “Heart of Europe” – Piano Recital celebrating the centenary of Poland’s independence, performed by an internationally acclaimed Polish pianist, Raphael Lustchevsky. Lustchevsky's performance in 2016 at the newly re-opened following earthquake repairs Great Hall of the Arts Centre was met with an enthusiastic reception, and he is set to delight Christchurch music lovers again.

The programme will include compositions by Poland’s F Chopin and I Paderewski, both renowned for their close ties to Poland’s independence movement in the 19th and early 20th century. The highlights of the night include Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 by Liszt played by Paderewski in his glorious 1904 concert tour of New Zealand and now repeated 114 years later, and Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, rarely performed in its original, acrobatically virtuoso piano-solo version.

Lustchevsky, who made his international debut at just 16 years with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, has since then performed on stages in North and South America, Australia, Asia, the Middle East, South Africa and most countries in Europe, earning himself a reputation as an expert interpreter of Frederic Chopin’s works. Since 2001, he has been included on the list of Steinway Artists which features the world's finest pianists.
