A must for cello-lovers, this concert takes us on a musical journey from the Spanish flavour of Ramón Jaffé’s and Anna Segal’s ‘Fantasia flamenca’ to Svante Henryson’s bluegrass-influenced ‘Black Run’, and from the tango of Astor Piazzola’s ‘Season’s to the kaleidoscopic ‘Julie-O’ by Mark Summer. This promises to be a programme to suit all tastes.

Come and join us for our 11th Festival in beautiful Akaroa. For the 2018 edition of the festival we have created an exciting concert programme showcasing NZ’s most accomplished musicians and fabulous international guest artists.

Latvian cellist Ramon Jaffe will be back this year - expect more Flamencos and Tangoes here – German pianist Michael Endres, American star – violinist Charles Castleman, Canterbury soprano Polly Ott and many others. On the musical menu, we have Piazolla’s Seasons in our Cellissimo concert, the Mendelssohn Octet lead by APO concertmaster Andrew Beer, a selection of Brahms songs performed by Rachel Fuller and Catrin Johnson, exciting baroque works performed by our baroque ensemble under the direction of Festival Director Wolfgang Kraemer and – our exciting new addition – a series of solo concertos performed by our guest artists with the Akaroa Festival Orchestra. We will also be hosting the double reed society with Australian oboe star Celia Craig and Canterbury’s bassoonist Selena Orwin. We are looking forward to our Woodwind Extravaganza concert on Saturday.

Together with the professionals, we have NZ’s best young talent in Akaroa. The students will present themselves in our lunchtime concert series at St. Peter’s Church. Do come along and see what the students are up to!

We are very much looking forward to having you as our guests,

Edith Salzmann and Wolfgang Kraemer.
