One of the series that long-established artist and ex-Elam lecturer John Nichol presents in his first solo show in a number of years, is his 'Ghost Tree’ paintings. He describes them as one of the times he has been able to directly express his concerns over an aspect of our planet’s crisis.

Growing up in Dargaville, gateway to the Waipoua Forest, the plight of kauri deeply troubles him. “These bleached ghosts emerging from the bush seem poignant reminders of our fragile ecosystems and the increasing risk we all face in a rapidly warming world.”
