Te Pito o te Henua, Rapanui, is the eastern-most island of the Pacific triangle. Dutch explorer Roggeveen in 1722 ‘named’ this land Easter Island simply because he encountered it on Easter Sunday.

Rapanui language is very closely related to Māori and is now in danger of being lost as a spoken language under pressure from Spanish, the national language of Chile. Riro Pakomio will speak on the background of Te Reo Maohi describing the distinct set of issues they must respond to if their unique and beautiful language is to live at the heart of their land, Te Pito o te Henua.
