This June the Literary Salon is a bit of a departure from tradition, as we concentrate solely on the latest work from historian Paul Moon – The Waikato: A History of New Zealand’s Greatest River

Paul Moon has spent several years researching his new book on the mighty Waikato awa, exploring the path of the river as it wends its way from the Tongariro National Park, through Lake Taupo, all the way out to the Tasman Sea at Port Waikato.

What emerges from his approach is an intimate portrayal of a remarkable stretch of water, that has provided for communities and facilitated wars. The book literally is the story of the river, the Waikato is the main character, and the connections it has with the people and places along its 425 kilometre route weaves a story full of surprises, tragedy and adventure.

Come along to another thrilling evening of literature, history and conversation, as the author and a few special guests join MC Mark Houlahan in a chat about this great book about our special river in Stanza 13 of our Salon series.
