A special talk from a special guest: Italian composer, performer, scholar, Luciano Chessa!

In this talk, Luciano will discuss how his scholarly work on Futurism relates that as a composer and performer.

Throughout the years I have cultivated an interest the aesthetics Futurist noise music, which eventually culminated in both the first reconstruction of Italian Futurist Luigi Russolo’s Intonarumori (as The Orchestra of Futurist Noise Intoners, Performa Biennial, NYC, 2009) and the publication of the first English monograph on Russolo’s art of noises (University of California Press, 2012).

At the same time, I have also produced a number of works that ecumenically treat what is FKA “noise” with what is FKA “sound”, as equally available compositional material.

"The aim of the talk is to unpack and untangle the poetic process in which musicological research can affect music (and vice versa) by discussing my own personal cycle from composition to music history and back." – Luciano Chessa

Koha.

Luciano is the inaugural International Artist in Residence at The Audio Foundation.
