Come down to the waterfront for our latest art workshops at the NZ Maritime Museum. Learn drawing and watercolour painting right at the water’s edge, lead by artist Kristen Olson Stone.

Cost: $45 per person (including booking fee), or purchase multiple classes passes and save. Pre-booking is required.
Tea and coffee offered complimentary.

Kristen Olson Stone, an experienced tutor and highly acclaimed artist from the USA, will be teaching an artist workshop on drawing and watercolor painting of various ocean-themed subjects.

Students will work in the museum’s fabulous new marina-side learning space. They will be able to draw and paint from life, as well as photographs.

The focus of teaching will be on teaching students how to capture a scene in watercolor with vibrant colors and values in a painterly style. Instruction will also be given on composition, color mixing, creating depth in a painting, painting skies, reflections, the ocean, boats with riggings and sails and more.

Each class will begin with a painting demonstration and lecture followed by plenty of individual attention for the rest of the class.

Basic sketch materials will be provided free of charge. The museum will supply a small amount of paint for students to learn with. We recommend investing in a watercolour painting kit from an art supplier to bring with you. This will enable you to do more painting in the class and practice at home.

Suggested supply list:
