In this exhibition Mayumi Sherburn is showing a range of collages. She is using different media, including watercolour, monotype prints, and sumi-nagashi (Japanese-ink marbling) as base for her collages. Some collages are colourful, some are monochrome and others will have subdued colours. All collages will be abstract.

In general, Mayumi likes to interweave her surroundings and her inner world (her mind and her Japanese cultural heritage) into collages. She features her favourite medium which is washi, Japanese paper.

She uses stitching as a drawing tool and often works spontaneously and intuitively. Although Mayumi prioritises intricacy and attention to detail, she also values negative space and a minimalist approach.

Taupo Museum is free to Taupo District ratepayers and all children. Adults $5, Seniors and students $3.

Closed Easter Friday.
