Join historian and writer Mark Derby, reporter Ian Sinclair and actor and director Daniel Fernandez in an interactive roundtable:

More than 80 years after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, this roundtable will explore the origins and experiences of Kiwi intervention during the conflict and the immediate post-war period.

A journalist, an academic, three nurses, a surgeon, a pilot, etc were amongst the Kiwis who travelled the world to participate in one side or the other of Spain's most infamous conflict. Families broke apart, thousands of people were murdered, but not a lot of people speak about the untold stories of the selfless heroes, like our very own "Kiwi Companeros".

At this roundtable, we would love to find out the motive that drove some New Zealanders to travel over 20,000km to intervein in a foreign conflict and the repercussions to those who did.

After the talk, we will offer a Spanish Wine thanks to St Vincent's Cave Spanish Wine Importers and some authentic Spanish Tapas thanks to Madriz Tapas Bar.

This event is possible thanks to the amazing work of Babel Theatre and Creative Desk Ltd.
