Nga Pae o Hina, an installation of pieces by painter Natasha Keating and weaver Bethany Matai Edmunds, redefines works from their successful Te Kōpū exhibition held in January at Mangere Arts Centre, South Auckland. This new iteration looks deeper into Hine Te Iwaiwa and her relationship to the moon.

The many faces of Marama talk to the tracking of time and seasons, the pushing and pulling of tides and energies that align us with her ancestral teachings. With the rising of Matariki, the New Year begins and it is the time to sit and plan for the year to come, time to set the Maramataka and look to the sky for guidance.

This exhibition provides a space to reflect and revisit these ancient connections we have to our environment, our cosmologies, our genealogies through Marama and her many faces.

The works are collaborative compositions of Natasha’s painted wāhine on recycled native timber, embellished by Bethany’s native putiputi and fibre adornments.
