The prospect of Nazi Germany invading England in 1940 is one of the great might-have-beens of modern history. We know a great deal about both German and British planning, and our knowledge of the military capabilities of both sides enables us to make some informed guesses about how an invasion may have panned out.

In this talk, Professor Gary Sheffield discusses how Operation Sealion has been treated by historians - and by novelists and film makers - and the consequences if Britain's 'Finest Hour' had turned out to be its darkest day.
