We are excited to announce Opotiki Lantern Festival’s -this year headlined by Avalanche City, L.A.B, and Three Houses Down featuring General Fiyah…plus more.

The festival has fast become a must do kiwi summer event. It was listed in the "Top 5 things to do this summer" in the New Zealand Weekend Herald.

This awesome festival is jammed packed with hot New Zealand Musical Talent and oozes a great kicked back family-friendly vibe.

Avalanche City

Avalanche City is the stage name of indie folk musician Dave Baxter from Auckland who is best known for his 2011 New Zealand number one hit single, “Love, Love, Love” and his 2015 single “Inside Out”. Dave has been nominated for three New Zealand Music Awards, including Breakthrough Artist of the year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year.

Avalanche City’s emergence from relative obscurity came abruptly after their song ‘Love, Love, Love’ was picked up by TVNZ for a promo ad. The ensuing popularity of the song saw their first album ‘Our New Life Above the Ground’ skyrocket to number one in the New Zealand music charts.

Tipped to be the next big thing, L.A.B.’s self-titled debut album went straight to number one on the iTunesAlbum Charts upon release.

L.A.B.was founded by the legendary Kora brothers Brad Kora (drums) and Stu Kora (guitar, keys) and quickly engaged the extraordinary talent of Joel Shadbolt (Batucada Sound Machine) on leadvocals & guitar and Ara Adams-Tamatea from the mighty Katchafire on bass.

The L.A.B. sound has seen them quickly become a fan favourite on the New Zealand live circuit. Trademark Kora grooves combined with Adams-Tamatea’s reggae/dub experience and Shadbolt’s blues roots create a sound entirely of their own.

Each member brings their own individual styles to the table, and the result is an eclectic mix of reggae, electronic, blues, funk, and reggae, even heading into country at points.

L.A.B. have already performed at Homegrown, Bay Dreams and One Love Festivals and supported UB40 in NZ.

Three House Down Ft. General Fiyah

Three Houses Down featuring General Fiyah will be entertaining the crowd with its reggae specialised sounds. Three Houses Down was formed in 2004 by Robert Pome’e, Lisiate Langi, Sione Pome’e, Charlie Pome’e, Loiola Pome’e (the five founding members) and their friends and family after Rob left another band that was based – three houses up the road from their parent’s home.

The band will be in Opotiki with their latest member, General Fiyah (11 year old Lotima Pome’e) who is a fully fledged member of Three Houses Down. General Fiyah’s first single with the band, Love & Affection, has quickly gone viral since being released in December, racking nearly half a million views on YouTube.

It's also tracking up the top 10 on the New Zealand Singles Charts thanks largely to Lotima's performance in the self-funded video.

The Event will take place at Princess Street Reserve, Opotiki. All ages are welcome to attend this family friendly event.
