Funded by British philanthropists Barrie and Maureen Pettman, who believe that musically gifted children should be financially helped to reach their full potential, the 2018 Ensemble is composed of New Zealand’s leading musicians and Auckland University senior lecturers’ cellist Edith Salzmann and pianist Stephen De Pledge, violin as well violin student Olivia McNeill and top- ranked international performance masters from the UK, Clio Gould and Jonathan Morton.

Clio Gould is the leader of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (the first woman ever to serve as leader of a London orchestra) and a professor of violin at the Royal Academy of Music. A one-time student of the great Yehudi Menuhin, Jonathan Morton has been concertmaster to the London Sinfonietta and the Scottish Ensemble, where he now serves as artistic director.
