Music historian and former Rip it Up writer, Chris Bourke will introduce this film that features the music of Ardijah, Graeme Brazier, No Tag and Fetus Productions.
Nineteen year old Ska is the Queen City Rocker. Ska and his friends lead a risky existence caught between the police, rival gangs, and the men who buy the goods they steal. Queen City Rocker is about a turning point in Ska’s life - four days in which he falls in love, sees his best friend die and leaves the streets forever.
Queen City Rocker operates as much on a musical level as it does on a dramatic one! New Zealand rock legend, Dave McCartney created a wide ranging soundtrack for the film – there’s Ardijah playing Give Me Your Number; Wentworth Brewster’s swinging smoky version of Nat King Cole’s Welcome to the Club, the suitably ferocious punk rock of No Tag’s Mistaken Identity, the gutsy punch of Graham Brazier and Simon Alexander’s Stand Up and Fight and the evil industrial clang of Fetus Productions’ Anthem.
