Traditional and modern worlds collide with hilarious results in Rangiora Players’ latest production, the charming ecclesiastical farce I’ll Get My Man written by Philip King and directed by Peter Edwards.

Set in the sixties, the Rev Arthur Humphrey’s quiet country life is turned upside-down when his TV-star nephew Peter Graham arrives from the city, escaping a horde of fanatical female fans including the irrepressible popstar Pixie Potter who wants to ‘get her man’.

But Humphrey is also facing the impending dismissal of his only ally, the cook and housekeeper Mrs Carter, who has been fired by his domineering sister Harriette.

Humphry’s solution, advertising for female companionship, only escalates his troubles when he forgets to add the word ‘marriage’, triggering a tsunami of correspondence from his own passionate followers.

And with the arrival of the dignified Bishop of Lax, the peaceful life and wholesome reputation of the vicarage, and indeed the entire village of Stebbington-Fawley, are about to be torn apart.

For director Peter Edwards the play is a delight to direct. “It’s so well written, there’s loads of action and great characters,” Peter says.

In fact, nine actors are engaged in teasing the finer aspects from the full gamut of eccentric personalities you’d expect in a classic British farce. “The cast is working very hard and everyone’s taking on their character brilliantly. We’re all determined to give the audience a fantastic show.”

I’ll Get My Man opens on Wednesday 5th of September at 7:30 pm, and runs for two weeks Wednesdays to Saturdays 5-8 and 12-15 September. There are also matinees on Saturday 8 & 15 September at 1:30 pm.
