Wellington artist Rieko Woodford-Robinson’s much awaited 2nd exhibition of unique anthropomorphic paintings depict native birds such as Kiwi, Tui, Kea and the extinct Huia.

Quite apart from quality and distinction the object of the artist in this genre of art is to establish character through dress and other adornments. Here Woodford-Robinson has referenced early New Zealand portrait painters such as Gottfried Lindauer and Charles Goldie where the birds wear exquisitely detailed Hei Tiki and feather cloaks while each character portrays a chieftainly and distinguished presence.

Rieko Woodford Robinson was born in Japan and has lived in New Zealand since 1999 working as an illustrator and artist based in Wellington.

The Exhibition opens with a Preview on Tuesday 2nd October, and will be on view until the 20th October. For more information please refer to the Warwick Henderson Gallery website.

“Aotearoa” is also one of the events included in the successful “Auckland Art Week” Event. Artweek runs from the 6th - 14th October.
