The third Craft Revival Café looks at the unique art of embellished darning to revitalise items of clothing and apparel.

Darning is a sewing technique used to repair holes or worn areas in fabric. Once darners sought to make the repair as invisible as possible, now a new twist on this vintage technique sees the repair made a feature – an artistic addition to give the garment a new lease of life.

The team at Rotorua Museum is looking forward to introducing this craft to new generations on Tuesday 10 April 2018 at 5.30pm.

Located at Te Rūnanga Tea House, you can enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles while you learn this unique technique. All materials are provided however if you have a specific piece you want embellished then bring it along.

Check out a couple of vintage darning examples from the Rotorua Museum collection.

Tickets are $15 and include a drink (wine or orange juice), light nibbles. Spaces are limited and must be booked in advance via Eventfinda.
