Dir. Marion Scemama, 2018, 70 min.
Memorial Theatre, Student Union Building.
Victoria University of Wellington, Kelburn campus.

Join us for an exclusive screening of Marion Scemama’s new film about David Wojnarowicz, the New York artist recently profiled at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Wojnarowicz was a key figure in the New York art scene of the 1980s.

Working in photography, painting, film, music, sculpture, writing, and, after being diagnosed as HIV positive, as an activist, he made a lasting impact for works that dealt with sex, spirituality, love and loss, themes that resonate with the Adam’s current exhibition, Still looking: Peter McLeavey and the last photograph.

Wojnarowicz died of AIDS-related complications at the age of 37 in 1992. He was part of New York’s vibrant downtown art scene that captured McLeavey’s imagination in the 1980s.

This is our final event for the year. After the screening, Adam Art Gallery will host refreshments to celebrate another successful year, to thank our many supporters and programme contributors, and to enjoy the Still looking exhibition. Suggested koha $5.

Please note the film contains sexually explicit material.
