Speed Works Motorsport Championship – Round 2.

With Christmas out of the way and the school holidays in full swing, what better way to enjoy a great family weekend than enjoy the first international motorsport event of 2018.

The single seater Toyota Racing Series, which traditionally features the future global stars of the sport, begins its 2018 season in Christchurch as it has done for several seasons with the Lady Wigram Trophy at the iconic Mike Pero motorsport Park, Ruapuna.

The trophy itself is one of the most historic sporting trophies in New Zealand and a very significant one in motorsport, carrying as it does some of the great motor racing names of the past. Who will add their name to it this time around? Be there to see history made!

As well as the full field of international single seater racers, there's a fantastic supporting cast of racing machinery with something to suit every taste and guarantee that great family weekend. Heading the supporting cast are the fabulous BNT V8s, which feature Class 1 and Class 2 machinery and some of the country's most established racers as well as the young guns hoping to make the main game abroad.

NEXEN Tyres Pro 7 Mazda have enjoyed a huge resurgence in recent years and a field comprising cars form both the north and the South Island is a first for this meeting. Last year one of the most impressive grids was the Pirelli Porsche series, which boasted no fewer than 25 plus GT type cars.

They are back again and expect a bigger and stronger field of these fabulous machines. Local South Island series also feature, including the 'anything goes' OSCA series, which has long been one of the South Island's top classes. You'll find everything in here, from home built special to exotic machinery from other global series.

The Toyota 86 Championship is back at the park once more, and will see many young guns battling it out for honours and the chance to win drives in Australia and even the Bathurst 1000 meeting. For sheer spectacle you cannot match the NZ Super trucks, another national championship, and they will once again wow the crowds with their mighty presence.

The international single seaters aren't the only ones on the bill either, with the national Formula Ford 1600 series bringing grass roots open wheeler racing to the meeting and reminding everyone where many of today’s top stars started their motorsport careers.

This event will also see the first of the Speed Works Motorsport Championship Rush Hour races, a winner takes all one hour mini enduro on the Saturday evening to guarantee sending everyone home with a huge smile on their faces. It will pitch the best of the V8s, the Porsches, the OSCA cars and a few 'wild card' entries into the mix for 60 minutes of pure speed!
