Monday 24:
Tell Me My Name:
New Zealand poet Bill Manhire has studied riddles for decades. In this lunchtime concert he will read riddles from all ages as well as some that he has written himself. He will be joined by the exquisite trio of Norman Meehan, composer and pianist, Hannah Griffin, vocals, and Martin Riseley, violin, in this charming show Tell Me My Name. You will be encouraged to guess what each riddle is about in this first of our St Paul’s recitals.

Tuesday 25
Michael Houstoun:
What better way to spend a lunch hour than with New Zealand’s most popular concert pianist. Michael Houstoun will present a beautiful programme playing Bach’s Preludes & Fugues, interspersed with music by Erik Satie. This will be a wonderful recital – and a thrill for the Festival to feature Michael in our Tenth Anniversary.

Wednesday 26
The Kugels:
Time for St Paul’s Cathedral to resound with the joy of klezmer music. This lunchtime concert will abound with evocative and haunting tunes as The Kugels expertly play a mix of traditional folk music from the Jewish peoples of Eastern and Central Europe, and the USA. They will also include some original klezmer music by composer and accordionist Ross Harris. A great hour of chutzpah.

Thursday 27
Anna Leese:
Dunedin’s very own opera star isn’t often heard here in a solo setting. The Festival is thrilled to have secured Anna for our lunchtime series. Hear this international singer perform up close and personal in what is bound to be a very popular concert. Anna Leese will perform a selection of operatic arias and art songs by, among others, Schubert, Debussy, Strauss and Puccini, with Terence Dennis at the piano. This is a unique event.

Friday 28
NZTrio: Braid:
The ever popular NZTrio make a welcome return to the Festival. With new personnel NZTrio still delivers their trademark infectious and upbeat performance style. In recognition of Suffrage 125, Braid unleashes an all-female cast of composers.

Those remarkable suffragettes are represented in the mystery (Rachel Clement), depth of character (Victoria Kelly), enduring strength (Elena Kats-Chernin), compassion (Clara Schumann), and a perfect tangle of emotional wisdom (Fanny Mendelssohn).
