Fireplace Recordings announce “Storehouse - All Rite Tour Pt.1”

“Suburban good-time connoisseurs seek outlandishly funky musical combo (OFMC) for mutually beneficial & life-affirming mid-winter rave-ups and possible LTR. Hat-wearers & hipster creeps need not apply. Must have GSOH & own MOJO in working order.”

...we answered the call.

Cult rhythm & blues outfit Storehouse return to the ‘burbs with the July “All Rite Tour Part 1”, appearing at two exclusive BYO shows - the Grey Lynn Library Lecture Hall on Friday 6th July, and Devonport’s Harmony Hall on Saturday 7th July.

This iteration of Storehouse teams slide guitarist-vocalist Tom Rodwell with one of NZ’s foremost drummers, Chris O’Connor (both members of Don McGlashan’s band) and the mysterious low-end rumblings and occasional pianistic tootlings of Basso McPeaks.

In the spirit of the traditional Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, which foregrounds the beauty of imperfection, a sense of spiritual longing and an embrace of transience, Storehouse haphazardly paper over the musical cracks that once separated blues, calypso, soul and gospel music. The resulting Frankenstein is nimble, lascivious, and frequently a bit of a card.

Their shows are renowned as a wild ride through all the flavours of boogie, and have taken place at isolated gravesides, ruined castles in the Swiss alps, and in innumerable dodgy pubs and clubs internationally since 2003.

“By turns wild, angry, hypnotic and sensual, it’s as uncompromising as it is funky and some of the best live music I’ve seen,” - Blues in London.

“Tom Rodwell is Sheffield’s answer to Lightnin’ Hopkins,” - NME.
