A robe can be an artist’s muse, and intricately designed and beautifully made garments are works of art in their own right. We showcase the art of fashion with a series of films about the fascinating fashion industry introduced by fashion expert Angela Lassig, who will put modern-day haute couture and street apparel in historic perspective.

Australian-born fashion expert Angela Lassig is currently working on a publication on 19th-century New Zealand dress and textiles. She has held curatorial positions at The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Auckland War Memorial Museum and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and in 2010 published the book New Zealand Fashion Design, which celebrates New Zealand’s top contemporary fashion designers.

Strike a Pose fashion films is supported by international streaming platform DocPlay. DocPlay presents a curated collection of thought-provoking documentaries from around the world.

The first film in this series is documentary The First Monday in May, released in 2016. It gives an unprecedented look behind the scenes of the creation and curation of "China: Through The Looking Glass", the most attended fashion exhibition in the history of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the 2015 Met Gala, the star-studded fundraiser. Look over the shoulder of Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and Met Gala chair, and Andrew Bolton, the curator who conceived the groundbreaking show, as they prepare for an unforgettable evening.

“Divine. What stylish fun. A dishy all-access doc.” – US Weekly
