Te Aka Mauri, incorporating the new Rotorua Library and Rotorua Children's Health Hub, is opening on 3 February 2018 from 10am-4pm and you are invited.

Join us for a day of free entertainment and activities for all ages including performances, storytellers, a fairy corner, face painting, guest speakers and lots of great prizes and giveaways.

Be amongst the first to come and experience what Te Aka Mauri has on offer and be a part of the festivities on the day.

A spectacular array of events and activities has been planned, all of which are free.
- Listen in to story-telling sessions with Debbie Tipuna, Angie Belcher and Aunty Bea.
- Try your hand with mBots, cubelets, 3D printers and more in the Makerspace.
- Have your face painted by award-winning Emma Edworthy.
- Take a "behind the scenes tour"
- Attend creative workshops with DHB play therapists.
- Enjoy the Travelling Tuataras performance.
- Experience the magic of the fairy corner for young children.
- Keep an eye out for Harold the Giraffe, some of the cast of Mary Poppins and some well-known book characters.

Dr Johan Morreau will give a live presentation of his highly acclaimed TED talk, “The first 1000 days of life” at 10:30am and again at 11:45am and, 2014 New Zealander of the Year Dr Lance O’Sullivan will be speaking at 11:15am.

DJ Ayesha Kee will MC throughout the day and an incredible line-up of talented singers, musicians and dancers are set to perform. We are excited to announce that singer-songwriter Maisey Rika will perform along with an amazing host of local talent including Ruaeo Te Moni and Te Waikura Witoko of Matariki Star Search fame, Murray Clark, AMJAZZ and Lakes Performing Arts Company.

Library services will be up and running and this will mark the start of seven days a week opening for Rotorua Library. This is your chance to get a behind the scenes tour.

As well as checking out all the new library services and spaces, you will be able to find out more about the health services that will operate at Te Aka Mauri as rooms will be accessible and staff on hand to answer questions.

You can also take the bus to get to Te Aka Mauri at no cost as all City Ride routes are free on our Open Day (excluding Route 15 - Murupara).

You may want to bring some money along with you though as there will be plenty of tasty, healthy treats on offer from Mobile Food Vans adjacent to Jean Batten Square throughout the day.

Come and explore the new facilities and enjoy the fun range of events and activities. Te Aka Mauri is your space and we can't wait to share it with you right from the start. Nau mai. Haere mai.
