Come and view this exceptional weaving exhibition showcasing pieces made by Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Maunga Kura Toi (Raranga – Weaving) students.

The exhibition, entitled, Te Tuki ā Paremata, is located at 1201 Eruera Street and is open from 27 October until 2 November, from 10am – 2pm.

A paremata is a present or a gift which you give to your guests.

Traditional paremata were circular in shape, with an apex at the top and a whole series of racks inside. Members of the community would place various kinds of food and goods on the racks that they wished to gift or offer for inter-exchange or for sale.

Generally, you would not take from your own gifts, but choose from the selections. On the marae it was a form of market place for the community.
