It's with great pleasure we welcome this film's directors Andrea Bosshard and Shane Loader to Ngā Taonga. Well known independent writers, directors and producers, Andrea and Shane will be available for a Q&A after the screening.

The Great Maiden’s Blush is a story of friendship, of forgiveness, and the redemptive power of truth. It’s a story of new motherhood; of babies and absent fathers; of opera and drag racing, gardening and Schubert.

Two first-time single mothers, one a taxi driver and girl racer, the other a pianist and gardener, share a room in a post-natal ward after the birth of their babies. A precarious friendship develops between the two, and as they face the challenges of new motherhood, they must also confront their pasts and face the truth of the paternity of their newborn babies.

This is a sinuous, clever, ambitious, nuanced, layered and gorgeously assembled film. Pay The Great Maiden’s Blush the attention it deserves and you’ll be rewarded with one of the most beautifully photographed, best sounding and best written films you’ll see all year. Bravo.” — Graeme Tuckett, 6 May, 2016
