A “Wise and Witty” comedy “The Memory of Water” by Shelagh Stephenson. Winner of Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy, 2000.

This clever, intelligent and thought provoking concept and dialogue is sure to please.

Estranged sisters; Teresa, Mary and Catherine, meet on the eve of their mother’s funeral after years of estrangement. How will the sisters deal with this? Can they find a way to live with the past? Can they agree on the events of the past? As they prepare the funeral arrangements, memories of childhood are hotly disputed as the secrets of long past events are raked over.

Each sister has a different memory of the same events! Their lives are eventually laid bare when long hidden lies, wounds, and betrayals are exposed. Theresa, owner of an alternative therapy business, is angry that she was left to care for their dying mother. Mary, a doctor, is still struggling with a deep loss from her past. Catherine seeks attention through a succession of short-term partners.

Emotional bruises of childhood emerge as half remembered events are revisited and seen through three quite different perspectives. Meantime, the ghost of their mother is watching and listening to the proceedings. Can this family be reconciled and if so how?
