Smetana's magical 'Moldau' river springs from its source in the mountains to flow glistening in the sunshine to the Czech city of Prague. The music tells the story of this grand river from its birth until it reaches the historic city and eventually flows out to the sea.
Conductor, Timothy Carpenter, and cello soloist, Edward King, delight us with Schumann's Cello Concerto, written during a most happy time in Schumann's life when he was Municipal Music Director in Dusseldorf. This is followed by Dvorak's most likeable 7th Symphony. Dvorak was of the fervent belief that 'An artist must write what is in his heart and what comes from his beloved country. Of his country, he said, 'An artist must place his staunch faith in his country and he must have it fervently in his heart'.
