A writer of stories, echoing the original Brothers Grimm tales, living in a totalitarian state finds himself interrogated about what he has written. Stories that have at their heart such horrific themes that could only come from a sick and twisted mind.

What follows is an exploration of the innate human desire to find one answer - has the writer’s art inspired evil actions or is it the other way around?

As must see for fans of crime dramas and Black Mirror, there is no denying that The Pillowman is dark. The story is challenging in the extreme, confrontational and daring – but nothing is quite as it seems.

Award winning writer and director Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri, In Bruges) walks the thin line between comedy and cruelty. The blackest of black comedy or a cheerful tragedy or a puzzle with no solution.

The Pillowman was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2004 and received a 2005 Tony Award nomination for Best Play. It is presented for a limited season by exciting new independent theatre company, Foolish Wit.

The Pillowman features discussions and representations of abuse and torture. It is not suitable for children.
