Think of a Garden opens in American Samoa in 1929 during the tumultuous colonial era of Samoa's struggle for political independence during the non-violent Mau movement. The play centres around the Kreber family; a matriarchal Samoan wife Luisa, her American husband Frank, and their only son David. The Samoan view of family, deference for the dead, behaviour in times of mourning, even concepts of time - all are deftly etched beside the story of Samoa's early move toward independence. The effect is a story as textured as a fine mat.

The son of a Samoan mother and an American father, John Kneubuhl's multicultural heritage produced a distinctive artistic vision. Partly autobiographical, Think of a Garden is touchingly personal in its exploration of alienation and cultural identity, offering a candid look at the writer's bicultural upbringing that artfully weaves together family memory, history, and mysticism.

Produced by T.A.P.A in association with Nathan Homestead, Think of a Garden marks the launch of the Homestead's annual 'Summer Theatre in the Gardens' programme and will be staged outdoors against the backdrop of the magnificent historic centre. Audience capacity is limited so book now to avoid disappointment - with only four performances, this show will sell fast.

This production also has a Boosted campaign to assist in production and administration costs. You can find that on the Think of a Garden Boosted website, all donations are greatly appreciated!
