The Whekau Trio bring a thought provoking programme called "The Philosopher Speaks" centred around New Zealand Composer, Philip Norman’s inspiring work “Plato’s Cave”.

Composed especially for Mark Hobson, this work depicts the Shadows giving way to Light then the enlightening experience of Life beyond the cave.

This is contrasted with the work of another composer from the other side of the world, with Astor Piazzolla’s The four seasons of Buenos Aires. This set of four separate tango compositions was originally scored for his quintet of violin (viola), piano, electric guitar, double bass and bandoneón.

They will be performing this programme in July this year at the World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia. The Whekau Trio have been together since early 2016, initially for a one-off performance, but now working more regularly in the chamber music scene throughout New Zealand.
