Carving in Ice Theatre is proud to present.
Today’s Bay by Craig Thaine, a staged reading, for Hamilton Book Month.

Directed by Gaye Poole.

Commissioned by the NZ Drama School in 1982, Today’s Bay focusses on a group of University students studying Katherine Mansfield’s short story ‘At the Bay’. The students are instructed by their tutor to act out various pieces of the story and give their responses to them, some do so with enthusiasm, others are more reluctant.

Today’s Bay explores what it means to be a New Zealander, Mansfield’s work and her place as a “New Zealand writer”, the preoccupation with childhood in New Zealand writing and much more.

Today’s Bay features Melanie Allison, Kendra Boyle, Henry Garfitt, Tara Given, Lily Gladstone-Gallagher, Biahga Larden, Kelly Petersen, June Potifara, David Simes, James Smith and Kirsty Young.

After the 2pm performance on Sunday, there will be a Q&A with the author Craig Thaine.

Sponsored by The University of Waikato.
Entry is by donation.

The Opus bar will be open.
