Te Papa’s spectacular new art gallery opens today! Come join our family-friendly events – from art making with the Pacific Sisters to a BodyCartography Project art tour with dancers. We’re open late, with live music from SoccerPractise and Chelsea Jade.

Where: Toi Art - Level 4 & Level 5

Our opening celebration runs all day, from 10.30am till late – and there’s more on Sunday too.

Programme:
10:30am–3:30pm, Levels 4 & 5: Portraits with Enid the Puppet Artist: Find puppet artist-in-residence Enid, who is roaming Toi Art and painting portraits throughout the day. Enid is assisted by puppeteer Anna Bailey of String Bean Puppets. Free, family friendly.

1pm–5pm, Wellington Foyer, Level 5: 'Walk with me' Immersive Movement Tours with BodyCartography Project: Dancers lead you through the new art galleries on a unique tour that uses movement to explore art in new ways. This one-on-one walking tour will activate your senses and encourage deep connections with the surrounding art and architecture.

This work has been commissioned for Te Papa’s collection, as our first intangible dance acquisition. Developed and choreographed by Olive Bieringa of BodyCartography Project, delivered by Kosta Bogoievski, Josie Archer, and Footnote dance company's Anu Khapung, Georgia Beechey-Gradwell, Joshua Faleatua, Tyler Carney, and Adam Naughton.

3pm–3:45pm, Levels 4 & 5: Chelsea Squared: A Curator and Musician in Conversation: Join Te Papa curator Chelsea Nichols and musician Chelsea Jade on a walk through Toi Art. Chelsea and Chelsea will discuss their top three works. Free.

4:30pm–5pm, Level 4: Freestyle Frock Action with the Pacific Sisters: The Pacific Sisters invite you to Freestyle Frock Action – a funky frock-rock down the catwalk with the audience as models. Fun fashion for everyone, straight from the streets. Free, family friendly.
