Toru Trio in Paekakariki.

Toru comprises Ingrid Bauer (Harp), Karen Batten (Flute) and Sophia Acheson (Viola). Formed in 2015, TORU is a dynamic chamber music trio presenting beautiful music for this intriguing combination of instruments.

Mulled Wine Concerts organiser Mary Gow, now in her tenth year of presenting high quality music for discerning Kapiti audiences says "We are featuring the harp as an instrument this year. Usually you see it off to the side of the orchestra, but it has a gorgeous sound in its own right, it looks stunning and deserves a better hearing!".

The programme features music from Italy (Persichetti), Japan (Takemitsu) and of course, Germany (Beethoven's Serenade, Op 25). The programme is suitable for all ages - the pieces are mostly around five minutes in duration. Phone Mary to arrange a family price! Acclaimed New Zealand harpist Ingrid Bauer is making her mark on the classical music scene with her lyrical and colourful interpretations of both standard and new repertoire.

As soloist, Ingrid has performed with the Australian National Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra, Wellington Youth Orchestra and our local Kapiti Concert Orchestra. Karen Batten (flute), a graduate of Victoria University, continued her studies at the State University of New York. She is Principal Flute for Orchestra Wellington and frequently works with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Karen enjoys teaching at the New Zealand School of Music.

As soloist, she has performed concertos with the Wellington Chamber Orchestra, Kapiti Chamber Orchestra and Wellington Youth Orchestra. Sophia Acheson (viola) is from Christchurch and studied performance viola in Wellington. She studied in Barcelona and had scholarships to study at the University of Southern California and later at the University of Texas. She furthered an interest in early music, learning the viola d'amore and viola da gamba. She is principal violist of Orchestra Wellington.
The concert will take place at the iconic seafront Paekakariki Memorial Hall.

Mulled Wine Concerts present the Toru Trio at 2:30PM on Sunday 11 March, 2018 at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall, The Parade, Paekakariki.
