From Edward Snowden’s Rubik’s Cube to Military Hats from Grizzly Bears, Uncle Funk lays bare, grizzly truths.

He has had his poetic license for 50 years, combining words with music while rattling the Weasels of Wellington, along the way.

"If this came off the cuff you’re a genius and if it didn’t I like it anyway." - Kim Hill Radio NZ

"This lively display of versatility is delivered with style and machine gun rapidity. Steve does some brilliant send ups." - The Scotsman Edinburgh.

Steve Thomas, originally from Wales, set Dunedin alight at the Fortune Theatre with The Tupperware Party in 1981, Pink Bits in 1982, and Over the Wall and Out in 1983, then Prime Time TV Live with Bronwyn Judge in 1987 at The Court Theatre.

Now as Uncle Funk, the delivery is slower and he won’t bowl anybody over or out but he can still spin. For 3 years in the noughties, he broadcast live current affairs in verse on Radio NZ as the Bard of Christchurch.

In 2015 he was invited to live-stream to Wales for Dylan Thomas’s 100th birthday celebrations. Sport, politics, the environment, business, religion, art, animals, food and wine all feature. He breaks his own ice, shouts one audience member a drink and bops a bit.

Don’t miss Uncle Funk’s karaoke. Three afternoons only at 4pm. All ages welcome.
