Join our passionate team of volunteers and pitch in with our island restoration; you'll also get the chance to plant a seedling and help us save Pennantia Baylisiana, a rare plant species. 360 Discovery Cruises generously offers a 40% discount for volunteers, so be in quick to book your place.

Getting here:
360 Discovery Cruises depart from downtown Auckland to Rotoroa Island at 8:45am. The trip takes just over an hour, with a stop-off at Waiheke's Orapiu wharf on the way. You can also get to Rotoroa Island by ferry from Coromandel.

What to bring:
Your lunch and plenty of water to drink; sturdy footwear (no open toed shoes); several layers of clothes and wet weather gear; sunscreen and sun hat; gardening gloves if you have them. If you require any medication, please bring it with you (especially if you are an allergy sufferer); staff will have a basic first aid kit only.

Please note, volunteer days are not suited for very young children; those five years and older are welcome however they must be supervised by their parent or caregiver.

What we'll provide:
Gloves and spades (please bring your own if you have them); tea, coffee and water; supervisors with plenty of interesting stories and good humour! Plus we'll put on a sausage sizzle.

Plan for the day:
Volunteers will be helping us with weed releasing and clearing the island tracks. Each volunteer will also have the chance to plant a seedling; we’ve been working with our friends at Oratia Nursery and have the unique chance to help save Pennantia Baylisiana a threatened species originally from the Three Kings Island.

- 8:45am - Volunteers depart on 360 Discovery ferry from Quay St;
- 10:00am - Arrive on Rotoroa, welcome and biosecurity briefing;
- 10:30am - Gear distributed and work begins;
- 12.30pm - Break for lunch
- 1:00pm - Continue restoration work
- 3:00pm - Time to explore the island, followed by sausage sizzle
- 5:15pm - Ferry departs for Auckland

Biosecurity information
Before you visit please:
- Check your bags thoroughly for rodents, insects (especially ants) and other pests prior to boarding the ferry
- All bags must be sealed - plastic bags, open top bags and supermarket bags are easy for pests to access so please leave these at home
- Carry food in sealed, rodent proof plastic containers and take your rubbish home
- Check your footwear is clean and that there is no soil or seeds in laces or treads
- Leave your bicycle at home and if you're bringing a buggy, make sure your tyre treads aren't packed with dirt or insects
- Leave your dog on board your vessel if visiting by boat as no dogs or domestic animals are permitted as they may endanger the island's wildlife, particularly shore birds
