BaronTones, Troubadours & Le Petit Neuf - Conducted by Kevin Tison.

Troubadours: Fountain Valley High School is located in beautiful Orange County of Southern California (a 45-minute drive from Los Angeles and just minutes from the Pacific Ocean), and is highly regarded as one of the top schools in the United States due to its academic rigor.

As one of the eight choirs in the Vocal Music Program, the 31-voice Troubadours have been in existence for over forty years as the premier vocal music ensemble. Since their founding, the Troubadours have had the distinct privilege of performing in cities and venues across the United States, such as New York City’s St. Bartholomew’s Church and St. Paul’s Chapel, at the sight of Ground Zero, the Segerstrom Symphony Center for the Arts in Southern California, and San Francisco’s beautiful Davies Symphony Hall and St. Ignatius Church.

In 2006 the Troubadours took their voices overseas for the first time, touring Germany and Austria in celebration of the 250th commemorative of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s birth. On this tour, the choir enjoyed performing in Neuschwanstein Castle, the Salzburg Salt Mines and mass participation at both St. Stephen’s and St. Paul’s cathedrals in Vienna.

In 2008 the Troubadours returned to Europe for a comprehensive tour of France, concluding in Paris with acclaimed performances in the Church of Saint-Séverin, L'église de la Madeleine and Notre Dame. Their tour of England in June of 2012 was highlighted by performances in beautiful Bath Abbey and St. George’s Church in Hanover Square in the heart of London. Most recently, in June of 2014, the Troubadours received the highest praise for their performances in the National Concert Hall of Beijing (China), the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the Xian Concert Hall and a specially featured radio broadcast across all of Hong Kong!

One of their greatest performance opportunities took place in March of 2011 as the Troubadours were featured at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Chicago, Illinois –one of only four high school choral groups chosen from throughout the country to perform in historic Orchestra Hall for this prestigious event.

No greater honor could be achieved on the national level for a choral group! These 13 ladies and 16 gentlemen are high school students, ranging in age from 14-18. Each of them undergoes a strenuous audition process for selection into Troubadours and are not only the premier vocal music group on the school campus but are also exceptionally, well-rounded students. Many of them are involved in theater, dance, band, athletic, leadership and church activities.

BaronTones: As members of the Concert Choir, these auditioned singers meet regularly outside of the normal school day to form an advanced men’s ensemble. Created by a group of young men in 2009 for a special tour to New York City, one of their first public performances was a powerful and moving tribute to the 9/11 victims at St. Paul’s Chapel of Trinity Church, located at the site of the former World Trade Center.

The BaronTones regularly perform on all Fountain Valley High School concerts, as well as traveling and competing in national festivals each year where they receive great acclaim for their energy and diverse repertoire.

Le Petit Neuf “The Little Nine”: These nine ladies also meet outside the normal class time and are highly auditioned for their fantastic vocal solo abilities and their finely–attuned aural skills. Known for their powerful harmonies, expressive sensitivities and touches of jazz, The Little Nine wins the hearts of their listeners throughout the year at concerts and festivals, along with other ensembles of the Vocal Music Program.

The ladies, as well as the BaronTones, receive weighted academic credit due to the advanced rigors and musical demands of being in this specialty ensemble.
