Kids! Wētā have been around long enough to see dinosaurs come and go. Now they deserve a helping hand from us.

Build your very own backyard wētā motel and earn a Toyota Kiwi Guardian medal. Your resident wētā will love you for it.

We are very excited that fun wētā wonder expert Dr Briar Taylor Smith from Tonkin and Taylor will share her unique experience and knowledge of wētā.

Wētā have become icons in New Zealand because many species are threatened or endangered. There are more than 70 species of wētā in New Zealand, 16 of which are at risk and only live in New Zealand.

Go on line after the event and claim your Toyota Kiwi Guardian action medal.

The Toyota Kiwi Guardian programme is a partnership between the Department of Conservation and Toyota to provide an awesome activity programme for kids to learn about nature, earn cool rewards and go on epic family adventures.

Getting children outdoors with friends and family is an easy, cheap and fun way to grow healthy and happy kids. There are lots of Actions and Adventures as part of this nationwide programme for kids. Check out the Kiwi Guardians website for more information on other activities you could get involved in.

When claiming your medals all terms and conditions for the Toyota Kiwi Guardians programme: http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/toyota-kiwi-guardians/claim-your-kiwi-guardians-medal/activity-medal/terms-and-conditions/apply.

Share your photos with us on social media using the hashtag #KiwiGuardians and you could feature on the DOC website.

Snacks and refreshments provided while you work!

A huge thanks to the Whaingaroa Environment Centre for making the workshops possible, and making life better for wētā.
