The discourse series Why Art Matters: Unwrapping the benefits of art to our society is looking to explore the role of the arts in our society. The series will cover different key aspects in which art impacts our cultural, social and economic well-being.

In collaboration with partnering organisations and individuals, experts in their specific field, we aim to encourage discussion and a shared exploration of the many reasons why art matters.

For the second instalment, Why Art Matters will explore art and the economy. In partnership with Artists Alliance, our speakers will discuss the benefits of investing in art and the partnering of philanthropy and business.

Speakers Jessica Pearless, Artist, Jihong Liu, Art Investor and Collector, Jennifer Buckley, Arts Professional and Tim Hazeldine, Professor of Economics at the University of Auckland will share their knowledge of the intersection of the arts and the economy.

The discussion will be chaired by Stephen Wainwright, Chief Executive of Creative New Zealand. The individual presentations will be followed by a lively discussion, whereupon the audience is invited to ask questions and to contribute their thoughts on the topic.
