KONO: Song Cycle of a New Town is a pick-a-path historical and interactive story told through voice, song and Maori musical instruments by Toi Warbrick. It takes us from Okatia forming the river through to the formation of Palmerston North, followed by the need to vote for a mayor in 1877. Being pick-a-path, any given performance of KONO is 1 of 32 possible versions. While we don’t use the usual pick-a-path 'book format', audience members have their own maps to navigate during each performance.

We are presenting KONO at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August. In our lead up to the festival, Toi Warbrick is running small KONO workshops to test a revised map and trial alternative audience decision-making/voting mechanisms. If you enjoy the process of art-making, critiquing new work, testing new ideas etc., we encourage you to come to one of our free workshops.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe: KONO is already on sale online at www.edfringe.com. If you have friends in the UK, friends going to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe etc – let them know a Palmerston North story is coming their way!

Post-Fringe: Toi Warbrick will be doing a programme of KONO performances alongside cultural identity sessions from Sept-Nov 2018. Be in touch with us at Facebook.com/ToiWarbrick if you are connected with groups, schools, clubs etc who might be interested in this type of activity, at their own site or at a performance space in town.
