A unique opportunity to see a brand-new Steampunk animated short film, "Della Mortika: Carousel of Shame". Visit the fantastical world of Della Mortika, where steam is king, where life is hard, but where adventure is always adventure.

The film is set inside a pop-up book from which emerge the stories of Della Mortika, where a melting pot of characters embark on a series of exciting adventures.

We meet three English sisters who are searching for their missing parents, a Russian soldier trying to make his mark on the world, an Irish scamp just getting by, an Aboriginal boy wanting to become a great inventor and an Evil Baron intent on controlling the city. Their paths cross, their lives intermingle, their fates are entwined.

The film is just under 20 minutes long, and gives us time to meet the filmmakers, Geraldine and Marisa Martin, a talented mother-daughter duo based in Australia.

Following the movie we are pleased to offer a short performance by The Great Wardini (aka Gareth Ward), from The Mind Magic of Magus Noir. Gareth delivers an interactive presentation of magic, mentalism and hypnotism as used by Magus Noir, the sinister magician in his award-winning novel The Traitor and the Thief.

With the help of members of the audience he will demonstrate how to tell if somebody is lying, how to predict the future, and how the art of misdirection can be used to materialise, vanish and transform a variety of objects. Gareth is a magician, mentalist and hypnotist and will demonstrate that many of the magic effects in the story are firmly based in reality.

His novel, "The Traitor and the Thief", a rip-roaring young adult Steampunk adventure, won the 2016 Storylines Tessa Duder Award, the 2018 Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best Youth Novel, and a 2018 Storylines Notable Book Award.

Gold coin donation. At the Inkbox Theatre, Oamaru Opera House.
Sponsored by OneAgency Oamaru - Kelli Milmine and Alan McLay.
The Opera House Cafe will open at 2pm, one hour before the Steampunk Fashion Show.
