Direct from South Africa the incredible voices of Zulu Love come to New Zealand Autumn 2018.

“As soon as people saw them, they were bowled over by their incredible talent, infectious enthusiasm and pure joy” – Nelson Mail.

The vocalists of Zulu Love are of international calibre and have sung at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London and The World Cup Soccer in South Africa. They have also toured Australia and the USA as leads of big South African musicals.

They are based in Soweto, Johannesburg. Their style is known as Isicathamiya (a type of African acapella music). Isicathamiya emerged on the world stage largely thanks to Paul Simon, who collaborated with the Durban based isicathamiya stars Ladysmith Black Mambazo on his 1986 Graceland album.

The style is named after a Zulu word that translates as ‘in a stalking way’ or ‘cat like’. It began in the South African mines at the turn of the 20th Century, where Zulu workers living in hostels or all-male dorms would secretly sing to each other in low voices. In modern times, it is no longer sung quietly but instead focuses on achieving perfect rhythm and harmony between the singers.

Celebrate the incredible music of South Africa. Don’t miss the soaring voices of Zulu Love.
