12 Links of Dependent Origination

One of the most profound views in Buddhism is the view of Dependent Origination.

Dependent Origination has three connotations: the first, dependence upon causes and conditions, the second dependence on parts, and the third is dependence on a labeling consciousness.

It is a difficult topic to penetrate and yet with insight into this topic it impacts and helps the reversing of habits that relate to the course afflictions, the negative emotions.

The 12 Links of Dependent Origination describes the view of cyclic existence, how rebirth works, of how we perpetuate over and over again having a body and a mind that is the basis for experiencing suffering.

Nagarjuna, a famous Indian master and scholar, writes
‘As long as there is grasping at the aggregates,
there is grasping at self;
when there is grasping at self there is karma,
and from it comes birth’.

Venerable Geshe Nyima Dorjee will cover each link over a 12 week series on consecutive Tuesday evenings. In nine years of teaching in Christchurch this will be the first time it will be covered in this depth.
